James Murphy

Obituary of James Maurice Murphy

James (Jim) M. Murphy, age 90 of Chico, passed away April 13, 2024, peacefully with his family by his side. He was a life long Chico resident, attended local schools, graduated Chico High class of 1951 and attended Chico State. He served in the US Navy and was called to active duty in San Diego. In 1956, he married JoAnn Burke and they spent 57 wonderful years together before her passing. They had two sons, Brad and Todd. Jim was well known as “The Wonder Bread Man” as he went to work for Wonder Bread after returning from the Navy. He spent 47 years delivering bread and Hostess cakes throughout the community. The highlight of his career was the relationships and friendships he built with his accounts, that have lasted long after his retirement. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, following in his father’s footsteps. Jim grew up hunting, fishing and camping with his father and grandfather, continuing the family tradition with his sons and grandchildren. He leaves behind his son Todd, daughter in law Jennie and grandchildren who he cherished: Matthew (Jami) and Marann. The family is grateful to the staff at The Courtyard for their care, kindness and friendship provided to Jim during his time there.

Funeral services will be held April 29, 2024 at 1:00pm at Glen Oaks Memorial Park. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations are accepted to “Chico Project S.A.V.E” in honor of the Murphy Family. Obituary online @ www.brusiefh.com
